FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • All wedding dresses need alterations. For your wedding day you will want your unique gown to fit you perfectly so you can feel your best, alterations ensure this. If you have specific questions about a gown and it’s fit, please inquire. We are happy to discuss sizes, measurements, and give specific recommendations for your body type.

  • With every gown there are remnants, i.e.left over pieces of fabric. We send them along with the gown upon purchase. The quantity and quality of remnants vary depending on the dress. For example, a gown which originally had a long sleeve and was made strapless may have quite a bit of fabric to craft a new sleeve or strap option. Inquire for specifics, we are happy to have a phone or zoom chat with you.

  • Through our bespoke service, Maybelle Couture, we can discuss making a similar gown with an heirloom from our library. We will not be able to replicate a gown exactly, as they are all one of a kind, but if there is a particular fabric or silhouette you desire we can craft a dress similar in spirit and beauty.

  • Couture gowns are more expensive than the Collection gowns. They are made to your measurements and designed collaboratively with you. We make a custom proposal for every Couture gown. Fabric, pattern making and sewing are all considerations when pricing. You do not need to live in the NYC area, we can schedule zoom meetings to discuss the project and take your measurements.

  • At Maybelle, we are aware of the impact we have on our surrounding environment. Every dress is upcycled, we transform an already existing dress into a new design. We strive to use only deadstock fabrics, the leftover fabrics of fashion houses who overestimated their needs. We are able to shop these locally. Using expert local craftsmen-drapers, pattern makers, and seamstresses not only allows us to oversee the whole process and ensure they are paid fairly but helps sustain the heritage dressmaking industry.
